Recommended Places to Stay

As battlefield tourism has become increasingly popular over the last 20 years, so more and more hotels have opened in Ieper. The following are recommended by this guide:

Ariane Hotel
Slachthuisstraat 58, 8900 Ieper
Tel. (+32)57/218218

Located just 5 minutes walk from the Grote Markt in a quiet suburb of town, the four-star Ariane specialises in catering for battlefield tourists. The lobby features a small museum, displaying artefacts from the Salient as well as uniforms, maps, letters and paintings, and the hotel is the starting point for minibus tours of the battlefield accompanied by expert guides. In the summer months the tranquillity of the patio and its water features present an agreeable place to unwind with a drink after a day’s touring. The hotel restaurant is superb and offers a wide range of meals together with a choice of set menus at a very reasonable price. Rooms are spacious, clean and airy. Car parking is plentiful, off-road and free. Overall, the Ariane is an excellent place to stay.

Novotel Ieper Centrum Flanders Fields
Sint Jacobstraat 15, 8900 Ieper
Tel. (+32)57/429600

Opened in 2001, the Novotel Ieper Centrum is located just a few steps from the Grote Market and just a few minutes walk from the Menin Gate. It boasts 122 fully air-conditioned rooms with all the features you’d expect to find in a modern European hotel – mini-bar, Pay-TV, phone and internet connection. There is also a good restaurant and bar and the hotel has a sauna and fitness centre. Rooms are modern and clean and the staff professional and friendly. The only note of caution is parking - the hotel car park is underground and charges at EUR10 per day although there are some spaces directly opposite the entrance to the church, which are free.

Hotel Best Western, Flanders Lodge
A. Dehemlaan 19, 8900 Ieper
Tel - 057/21.70.00

A good alternative to the central Ieper hotels, the Flanders Lodge, located in the northern outskirts of town, is clean, modern, reasonably priced and has all the features you'd expect from a two/three star establishment with a restaurant/bar and mini-bar and satellite TV in the rooms. The hotel is kitted out in a "hunter's lodge" style and has ample parking for the visitor. The town centre is about 20 minutes walk.
